What’s happening in the Junior room?
We have been very busy in the Junior classroom these last few weeks! In Science we learned about our sense of hearing, listening to high and low sounds, making high and low sounds and learning about how the ear drum works. We have also been discussing the signs of Spring and exploring the school ground for signs of new life. Our class tree is looking more cheerful now that there are buds growing on it! We will shortly add our beautiful spring flowers under the tree. We will be learning about animals and their young too, the challenge is to remember the names of the young animals! In our Geography lessons we have been making simple maps from home to school and will soon be learning about a ‘birds eye view’. We will view our classroom from above and make birds eye drawings of our desks and classroom.
We have been listening to the story of St. Brigid and her cloak and we made beautiful crosses to hang over our Sacred Space. We are looking forward to making pancakes on Shrove Tuesday, but first we must write the instructions on how to make them! As Lent begins, second class begin preparing for First Penance, learning about forgiveness and trying to live as Jesus asked us.
While first and second class go swimming on Mondays, Junior and Senior Infants are busy learning through play at their weekly ‘stations’. Junior infants are continuing to learn their new sounds, reading words with their new sounds, writing their letters and playing number games! Senior Infants are busy working on their new sounds, tricky words and number stories. Ms. Delaney helps us with our number games like Animal Hunt and Sweetie Jar which we love! We even find time for a game of BANG! The children ‘pass the parcel’ and read the word on the card they win. They can keep the word if they can read it. They must then try to hold onto their words because if you pull out a BANG! card you lose all your words! The winner is the person with most cards at the end. As you can imagine we really enjoy this game!
Bhíomar ag siopadóireacht agus cheannaíomar rudaí sa siopa spóirt, siopa éadaí agus sa siopa milseán! We learned and performed the song ‘Tá mé sa siopa…’ for the senior children and they were soon singing along with us!
This is just a selection of our work from January and February so far. We will keep you posted on what’s happening here in the junior room, pictures will follow shortly!
